Zine faq

Q: What is a zine?
A: A fanzine (a blend of fan and magazine or zine) is a non-professional and non-official publication produced by enthusiasts of a particular cultural phenomenon (such as a literary or musical genre) for the pleasure of others who share their interests. In this zine, we all unite through our love for The Antiquarian, Qi Shiyi!Q: What is the theme of this zine?
A: This zine would primarily focus on the Antiquarian, Qi Shiyi! Fanworks can be based on any of her canon skins such as Bai Ze, Mulan, Mycology, Serpent Flag, Ocean Conqueror, her iconic default appearance, essences/in-game events, official merchandise designs, or deductions!Q: How old should I be if I want to apply as a contributor?
A: This zine would be a FREE digital zine, but we prefer to have contributors be at least 16 years of age when applying!Q: Will there be NSFW content?
A: This zine will be strictly SFW, with PG-13 contents. You can speak with any of the Moderators if you have concerns about your piece!Q: Are other characters allowed to be shown?
A: Other characters may be in your piece as supporting characters as long as Qi Shiyi is the main focus! Our zine's focus is on Qi Shiyi and her many costumes and essences, as well as her main deductions and in-game events, so these can include anyone that shares the same essence/event universe with her as long as Shiyi remains the focus!Q: Are romantic ships featuring Qi Shiyi allowed?
A: We will be allowing depictions of ships into the zine, as long as pieces are not showing excessive PDA (Public Displays of Affection). Hand-holding, hugging, light kissing, etc., will be allowed. However, we would also like to keep romantic ships down to a minimum to focus more on Qi Shiyi's character, so we also encourage contributors to also explore Qi Shiyi's connections to others in her events, essences, and deductions! We will be placing caps on pairings and reoccurring themes to ensure there is a variety of works being showcased in the zine! We will explain more about the zine assignment process in the next question below this one.Q: How will you organize piece distributions?
We are aiming for a full variety of Qi Shiyi contents, from character analyses, to backstory/deduction appreciation, to in-game event stories, and explorations of all sorts of relationships and dynamics that Qi Shiyi has with others in Identity V! This is a Qi Shiyi centric zine and the goal with having this system is to make sure no content overpowers others significantly, whether it’s too much of a certain costume being represented over others or too much of only one ship/pairing!
(For example, if there’s too much TangQi, QiAnne, or Bai Ze content, we might as well call it a TangQi zine/QiAnne zine/or a Bai Ze Only zine instead of a Qi Shiyi zine!)This was NOT made to LIMIT our contributors or deny them from making specific content, it is to ensure that we get all sides of Qi Shiyi and additional characters showcased equally! We will have contributors come up with 3 different ideas that they want to contribute to the zine, with the premise that all of them are different! Please make sure that you are 100% sure you want to do any of your 3 pitches in the case you don’t get your first/second pick!
This system is first come first serve, so those who submit their pitches earlier will have a slight advantage that their first/second pitches will be assigned IF there aren’t any overlaps! After we have collected everyone's pitches, mods will put all submissions on a spreadsheet so we can assign pitches and make sure no content overpowers another. For those interested in creating pieces based on characters from her deductions/lore, feel free to create your own designs/descriptions of characters from her lore that don't have designs yet for your works! We’d love to see your creativity!Ships will also have limit caps that will be adjusted by the mods once submissions are in! For those wanting to depict their favorite ships in the zine, we encourage you to showcase your favorite rarepairs or platonic ships! To have a variety of pairings and dynamics shown in the zine, we will aim to have an equal amount of content per pairings shown in the zine, with slight differences of one or two pieces! If you have any questions about what is allowed, message us on our zine twitter!!Q: Will you accept merch artists?
A: Yes! We are accepting digital merch artists!ABOUT THE ANTIQUARIAN'S "CROW" SKIN
Fanworks featuring the "Crow" costume and other skins from the Hill Pigeon and Shining Feather essences shall not be allowed due to the orientalist themes of those essences and the discomfort it brings to those whose cultures are being inaccurately depicted and represented.
Note: You are allowed to submit pieces featuring Qi Shiyi and others that were featured in these essences as long as the Hill Pigeon/Shining Feather skins are not being used.
